I'll get the ball rolling, but I believe I have a unique situation. I love buying premium hardware to meat up my rig, but I do not like spending money. That is why I typically don't budget myself, but rather try to achieve the highest power/dollar ratio while staying on the high end. So as you can probably assume I prefer AMD over Intel and nVidia, don't necessarily care about RAM brands, etc. It also means I haven't updated anything in my rig for years now, so it's time for a total overhaul. I use my main rig for application development, amateur video editing, mild gaming (but always on high gfx), and such.

Budget: N/A
Intended use: Multiple power-user uses (need well-rounded beast)
Currency: USD

Please and thank you. :)

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz (8cores) (about 200€)
RAM: Corsair CMY32GX3M4A2400C11R (4x8GB 2400mhz ddr3) ( about 250€)
MoBo: Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 ATX AM3+ (about 150€)
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE ( about 350€ )

Thanks for the build! I was wondering about the storage, should I eventually get myself a 1tb hard drive? Since theirs only a 120gb ssd for storage in the build
Ahh apologies, I had actually put a 1TB WD Blue drive in, but then noticed I hadn't switched from USD to CAD.
I'll re-do the build tomorrow when I wake up, as it's 4:50am here.

Budget: (under 100 pounds (if possible))
Intended use: I just want to learn how to build a computer myself really, low specs are fine. I will be using it for programming, scripting, etc. I won't be playing any games on here. It will be purely used for programming only, just want to get the feel on how to build assemble/disassemble a computer.

Logicalincrements.com is a nice site to look at for general gaming desktop part selection to match your budget.

Notebookcheck.net is the most detailed and technical place for laptop reviews/comparisons and mobile CPUs.

The two resources I use most often :p

Yeah iirc the cheapest a botting rig can be made for is ~£300, and that's mid-range ish build.

That's the cheapest for new parts, and to be quite honest, I really can't recommend spending £150 on bad parts in order to learn how to build a system. Instead I would recommend saving up for a PC upgrade and learning from there.

I'll put my PC on hold then; I'm using an iMac so I'll just wait and save up 1000 pounds+ until I can make a decent one, if you think it would be a waste to spend 150 on a pc if i was my goal was just to learn how to build a system
