My symbolic interpretation of the image and word

• So an octopus has 8 legs. The octopus' legs can detach at will, to escape from the enemy.
• The octopus also represents a teaching figure, representing the purpose of RM.
• The way it can relate to spectre is it's use of ink, by spitting out ink it can escape from an enemy.

My interpretations:

• Spectre will use multiple methods of accessing the client, whenever one is detected it will switch to the other. By encompassing the client (like an octopus might do to something it is interested in), it can access it from multiple areas.
• If Jagex gets too close we can conceal the method used last to keep Jagex guessing, this is related to the octopus spitting out of ink and breaking legs off to escape.

Then again, you said it was not a trivial answer, so it's probably not even on this level.

That awkward moment when your interpretation is more epic than my intention. However, the riddle is not philosophical in nature. The start and the end are ouroboric when it comes to technology.

Runemate spectre = Alienware + Spider to show networking/complexity with spider web. Possibly spider gives impression that there small setbacks (deaths to spider) in the grand scheme of things don't affect it since theres so many. Also brings up the question of the circle to be a resemblance of the world meaning its intercontinental. Could show superiority as alienware are considered top notch products therefore shows Runemate is among the best.

Octopus looking to show it covers all regions - land/water meaning nothing is unbottable.

If I had to take a wild guess then my interpretation of it would be a Ghostly Hydra Hybrid, not only is it almost impossible to detect but in the strange case that is does and one of its heads/appendages/legs gets cut off it would just become stronger in some way shape or form. I don't know though, just a thought.

So just a shot in the dark but octupuses can change colors based on their surroundings and blend instantaneously. Probably some combination with color?

Just from the logo and a few Wikipedia pages, The Bond movie from 1967 had ninjas and stuff, but SPECTRE is just a advanced Crime Syndicate with a plethora of tech. They outsmart and out do their opposition. That very similar to the goal of the new client.
