The problem is trying to get the camera to sit exactly where it needs to. There's no way to say turn until slot x is over the bounds of the range. Which is why it's hardcoded to a specific angle and zoom level, which only works at the right window size. This solution would have the same problem, it would just remove the need to move the mouse. Might look into it though
