After installing runemate and running two scripts I did an antivirus scan and my system was infected by the infamous Win32:Rootkit-gen [Rtk] trojan.
Do you have any explanation for this? Or is runemate just a malicious program?

I am 100% sure it is due to installing runemate/running scripts since I installed it on a freshly booted system.

edit:
Win32:Rootkit-gen [Rtk] is a program that collects user information like usernames/passwords

No, I'm 100% confident this client isn't infected with anything.
So you think I got the trojan through some other way? I installed it on a freshly booted system, I cant see how else I got it.

Do a scan on your pc
Alright this was the timeline : system just out of factory -> install antivirus scan -> scan system detect nothing -> install runescape/runemate -> run some scripts -> do another antivirus scan-> detection of trojan.

RuneMate is not malicious.

If your anti-virus is detecting issues, it is a false positive.

We do collect user information, like mouse-movements and other biometric data which allows us to feed our mouse-path generator. Account specific data is collected, but it fully encrypted client-side, so there is no visibility of it to us, or anyone else.

However, that's not what causes anti-viruses to occasionally get antsy. It's happened before and it'll happen again because of the way we obfuscate the client. Report it as a false positive.

Is it possible that I got virus through the scripts? Like are there safe and unsafe scripts?
Every bot goes through a review to check if there's any malicious code before it's being deployed on the store. So it's very unlikely that bots are 'unsafe' in that way.
