The smile of a loved one. Your childhood blanket. A giant bodyguard that vaguely resembles Schwarzenegger in his Terminator days. “Security” can mean a lot of things in this crazy life, but nothing says “security” like RuneMate’s two-step verification. It’s available as an option in your Settings page as of right now.
You know how you need two keys to launch a nuclear missile? Two-step verification works like that. One key is your password, the other key is your cellular phone, and you need both to access anything RuneMate.
Keep your accounts, both for RuneMate and RuneScape, safe and secure, like you do your nuclear missile.
FAQs
What is two-step verification and how does it work?
Two-step verification makes it especially difficult for anyone other than you (e.g., hackers, exes, et al) to access your RuneMate account. Aside from your regular login info, you'll need a couple extra things to get in:
We STRONGLY recommend keeping your back up codes somewhere secure, so that if you ever lose access to your authentication method (eg: phone is stolen/lost), you have a way to log in.
- Your phone (which you've hopefully password-protected)
- A unique, single-use code generated by an Authenticator app
How do I set up two-step verification?
How will two-step verification work when I log in on the web?
- Hover over your username on the top right of the page and click Two-Step Verification from the dropdown menu.
- Follow the steps laid out in the configuration page.
If you've enabled two-step, it should work like this:
What if I disable two-step verification?
- Log in to your RuneMate account.
- Once you've received the unique code through an Authenticator app, enter the code in the specified field.
- Voila! You're in!
Well, we strongly advise against this. Your account is far less likely to get compromised if you've enabled two-step verification. But if you must, you can do so by clicking the Disable button in your Settings. You'll then be able to log in to your account without the extra verification step.
Which Authenticator apps do you recommend?
We currently only support Google Authenticator, which you can download for iOS and Android.
What if I lose my phone/authentication method?
You should have kept your back up codes to help you in a situation like this. If you didn't, unfortunately there isn't anything we can do to reset your account.
